Synopsis: Set in 1935, on death row in a Louisiana prison, tells the story of the relationship between Paul Edgecomb, the chief prison guard, and one of his prisoners, John Coffey.Coffey is a black man of large proportions, sentenced to death for the murder of two white girls. Gradually develops between Edgecombe and Coffey an unusual relationship, based on the finding that the prisoner has a magical gift that is both mysterious and miraculous.The story is told in flashback by Edgecombe, during his old age in a nursing home. Besides being related to Coffey, Edgecomb recounts the stories of other guards and convicts.
